William (Bill) Durrett passed away on Saturday, May 22nd 2021. He leaves behind his wife Nancy, just one month shy of their 50th anniversary, his daughter Pamela McCracken (42) and son Bill Durrett Jr (40) as well his two grandchildren, Ashlynn (8) and Wesley (5).
Born to Raymond S. Durrett and Antoinette Stamas, he grew up in New Jersey with his sister Cathy Durrett-Filusch. He would go on to receive a B.A. Degree in Biology from Seton Hall University in 1970 during which he met his future wife, Nancy. After a few years of dating, they were married on June 26, 1971.
After living in Boston for several years, they moved to Atkinson, New Hampshire where they lived until 1985. At that time, his work with Syva – where he worked for more than 25 years – lead him and his two children to move to Los Gatos, CA where he would live for the rest of his life. While living in California, he would continue his education, receiving his MBA from Pepperdine University. He worked for several heathcare companies throughout the Bay Area until his retirement.
Passing on his love of sports to his children, he was a constant volunteer or coach, helping out with his kids baseball, soccer and swim teams. After Belwood swim meets you could always find him at a table with other dads playing a friendly game of Hearts.
He frequently attended professional sporting events with his kids and friends cheering on the Bay Area sports teams including the Giants, A’s, 49ers, Warriors, Sharks, Cal Bears and San Jose Spartans - always enjoying a chance to tailgate with friends and family. He was also a dedicated cub scout leader, Indian Guides member, and a Band Dad at Leigh High school. His bright smile and warm demeanor were always a welcome sight at any event.
He was able to see both his children graduate high school and college and had the honor of walking his daughter down the aisle when she married Doug McCracken in 2002.
In 2012 with the birth of his granddaughter, he started the new phase of his life with gusto as “Pita” as Ashlynn named him. Though a major heart attack tried to take him away from us in 2013, his heart was strong and God gave him more time with us. During those years, he also got to celebrate the arrival of his grandson. He was a hands on grandfather always taking the kids to the playgrounds and amusement parks as well as building trains, playing sports or swimming in the spa.
He was a truly loving husband, father, grandfather and friend that we were all blessed to have known.
William will be laid to rest at Los Gatos Memorial Park on Tuesday June 15th at 11:30am in the Legacy Garden. We welcome all friends and family to join us to celebrate the time he had with us and the fond memories we share. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon at the Belwood Cabana on Belwood Gateway in Los Gatos after the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
For those unable to attend in person, there will also be a private virtual broadcast of the memorial.
