Scott Matthew Adams (Matt) passed away on Wednesday surrounded by his family after doing what he loved, golfing with his buddies. Matt was beloved by so many as much for his gentle, kind, and loving spirit as he was for his dry sense of humor and constant group texts. No one that has ever met him would disagree with the belief that Matt was personally responsible for over 90 percent of all Steelers merchandise sales and never wore an article of clothing that did not bear the team logo. What he will remembered for most, however, was his love for his family – his wife of over 33 years, Thea, his son John and daughter-in-law Nancy, and his son Cliff.
Matt was born in Paris, TN but grew up in Pittsburgh, PA where his love for the Steelers was formed. After graduating high school and attending Thiel College, Matt moved to Santa Clara County where he spent the rest of his life. Matt finished his degree at University of Phoenix, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. Matt spent his career working as a project manager for various IT companies including Cisco, Tandem, and Compaq.
Matt bought his home 40 years ago in San Jose and swore he’d never leave because of the love he had for his neighbors, a community that he considered to be family. This community and neighborhood has brought Matt, Thea and their family a lifetime of joy, love, and support.
Matt is survived by his wife Thea, with whom he was inseparable. Matt and Thea have two sons, John and Cliff, as well as John’s wife Nancy, whom he considered to be a daughter. He is also survived by his stepmother Bebe Adams of Pittsburgh, PA; sister Julie (Bob) of Charlotte, NC; his brothers Gary (Becky) of San Diego, CA; Gregory (Missy) of New York, Matthew of Wilmington, NC; and sister Tricia of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by his Aunt Susan and Uncle Peter Moran of Tucson, AZ. Matt is predeceased by his father, Wesley, mother Vicki, and brother Brian.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral service on Friday, September 10th at 10am at Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills at 615 N Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos. The service will be immediately followed by a celebration of Matt’s life and memory at their home located at 1583 Willowbrook Drive in San Jose.
