Salvatore Peter Scurti of Almaden passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on May 14, 2021. He was 86 years old.
Salvatore, or Sal as his family and friends knew him, was born November 26, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts to Gaspare and Antonietta Scurti. In 1955, Sal married Shirley Scurti in San Jose, California, where they raised two sons, Steven and Stuart.
In August 1957, Sal was drafted into the United States Army and completed basic training at Fort Ord, California. He was stationed with a ready battalion in Fort Lewis, Washington and served in the Army reserves after his active duty was complete.
Sal was a successful business owner and operated multiple painting companies for about 25 years, including D & S Painting and S. Scurti & Sons. He was President of the Painting and Decorating Contractors' Association and Director of the Apprentice Board for the association.
He spent many years coaching youth football and baseball in Almaden and was an active member of the AAVAC gym club. Sal enjoyed spending time at their home in Tahoe where the family would boat and enjoy the lakeshore. He was an avid mountain skier and a 49er football fan – he held season tickets for many years.
Salvatore is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Scurti, his two sons Steven and Stuart, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He will be laid to rest Thursday at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
