Ronald “Ron” was born in Queens, New York to Babette Bentson and Arthur Mackin. He and his brother, Gerald “Jerry” appreciated happy childhoods. Ron sold the newspaper in the subway and spent summers enjoying Sound Beach with his Aunt Helen and Uncle Terry. He was an early entrepreneur; buying drinks at the market and re-selling them at Rockaway Beach for a 10 cent profit. Ron attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School. He did well with discipline. His Dad was, after all, a New York City Police Officer. After Ron finished high school he was ready to get out of town. He joined the Navy and developed a love of travel and business. He used to loan money to his crew mates when they’d dock on Fridays and collect on Tuesdays. Numbers have always been his game.
Long time Monte Sereno resident, Ron, was a man of great stature; 6’4” in height, a good strong build yet thoughtful and gentle. He had bright big green eyes and a presence about him that you’d have to experience to understand. He was a business man, real estate investor and family man. He was always taking care of others.
Ron attended San Francisco City College where he met and fell in love with Joan. They were both enrolled in a business class and she kept dropping her pencil, which Ron gladly returned, over and over. Finally he got the clue and the rest is history. Ron and Joan loved cruising the world, dancing, dining out and celebrating life.
Ron and Joan were married for 48 years. They proudly raised a family; Rick (Louise), Steven (Debra), Noreen (Mark), Jacqueline (Karl) and together they relished in the joy of their son, David (Jeanette). He took great pride in his grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow.
One of Ron’s many passions was serving on the Board of Directors and volunteering at Martha’s Kitchen. He attended Mass at St. Mary of Los Gatos.
Ron was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed. We take comfort in believing that he and Joan are dancing together in Heaven.
Private services were held. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Martha’s Kitchen or St. Mary Los Gatos.
