ROBERT EUGENE HANSARD
Robert was born on May 16, 1933 to W. S. (Littler) and Clura Hansard in Cumming, Georgia, the eighth of ten children in the Hansard family. Robert did well in school, graduating valedictorian in high school and junior college. He completed his bachelor's degree in Mathematics at Mercer University in 1956. Robert taught high school math before being drafted into the Army. While in the Army, he learned how to program computers and was part of the team that programmed the first American satellite to be launched into space. Upon being discharged from the Army, he was employed by Burroughs (which later changed its name to Unisys) from 1960-1991. After retirement from the computer industry, he went to work delivering mail for the United States Post Office. August 1957 in Roswell, Georgia, Robert married his sweetheart, Ann. They started their life together in Georgia, but soon moved to Alabama, and then Michigan, before settling down in California for 54 years. Robert and Ann have four children. Scouting was a big part of his life. He enjoyed helping the boys work on merit badges and projects for becoming Eagle Scouts. He attended summer camp every year with the scouts.
Robert was an active member at Cambrian Park United Methodist Church. He wore many hats around the church, from serving on various committees to cutting the grass. Robert (Bob as his friends knew him) could be found every Sunday morning sitting in his favorite seat in the sanctuary at Cambrian Park United Methodist Church.
Robert is survived by Ann, his wife of 61 years, his son Steve; his daughter Carol and son-in-law Stieg Underwood; his daughter Julie and son-in-law Thom Davis; his son Wes and daughter-in-law Sandi; as well as four grandchildren Kyle and Emily Davis, and Katie and Daniel Underwood; as well as his sister Betty Bennett and brother Billy Hansard.
He will be missed by many.
