Mary Lee Holland passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her cherished family at Kaiser–San José in the early morning hours of November 17, 2022.
She was born in Charleston, West Virginia, to Raymond Holland and Mildred Lee (Noll) Holland, and raised in Ripley, WV, where she graduated from Ripely High School as Class Valedictorian with a GPA of 4.0. She obtained her B.A. from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, and an M.D. degree from Washington University, St. Louis, MO. She returned to WVU complete her Internship in Pediatrics, where she met her future husband Madhukar Pamidi (MR), who was completing his Ph.D. in Engineering.
They moved to the Chicago area and Mary completed her Residency in Pediatrics at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and Loyola University Hospital Medical Center in Maywood, IL. Mary and MR got married and moved to San José, where Mary opened her solo private practice in Pediatrics, affiliated with O’Connor Hospital. She later closed her practice to raise her two beautiful children—son Matthew Arun and daughter Meera Linda.
As a Physician, Mary's goal in life was to heal and help people. She absolutely adored her family, especially her children. She loved working with children and often volunteered at her kids’ elementary school. She was known for driving around in her minivan and giving rides home to many of Matthew and Meera’s friends. In her free time, Mary enjoyed crocheting, knitting, painting, photography (growing up, she had her own Darkroom) reading books, sewing, teaching, and playing instruments including the piano and the clarinet, her most favorite pieces being Beethoven’s “Für Elise”, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”, and Ravel’s “Bolero”.
Her survivors include her: husband MR of 46 years, children Matt and Meera; brother-in-law Dr. P. R. Pamidi, his wife Pushpa Pamidi, their son Praveen Pamidi, his wife Andra Pamidi, and their children Esha and Kiran; sister-in-law Tara Murthy, her husband N. R. Krishna Murthy, and their children Soumya and Sumanth; favorite aunt Alma Jean Critchfield; cousin Arlene and her husband Gary and their children Anne and Katie, and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 3, at Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills, 615 N. Santa Cruz Avenue, Los Gatos, CA 95030, with viewing at 5 PM and funeral services at 6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Mary would like for you to donate to a children’s charity of your choice.
