Memoriam: Margarethe H. Friedl
1928 - 2018
Born in Schenectady, New York and raised in Berlin, Germany, Margarethe returned to the States after WWII and attended Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. She was working at General Electric in nearby Schenectady when she met her future husband, Eugene Mack Friedl. Margarethe was fluent in eight languages; her husband worked for GE for 42 years and they raised three children while living overseas. In 1973, they moved to Saratoga. In addition to church work, Margarethe was active in the Ikenobo School of Ikebana, the Republican Women’s Club, the Peninsula Symphony Auxiliary, the San Jose Opera Guild, and loved to travel, sew, cook, paint in oil, and arrange the flowers from her garden. She is preceded in death by her husband who died in 2013—they were married for some 63 years--and she is survived by her children Erik Friedl of Burbank, California; Karl Friedl of Frederick, Maryland; Madeline Isberg of San Jose, California; her grandchildren, Kevin Friedl of Silver Spring, Maryland; Jennifer Ferla of San Jose; Stephanie Hadley of San Jose; and her great grandchildren, Kevin Ehren Friedl, Charlotte Isabelle Friedl and Marceau Eric Friedl. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Karl Erich Friedl. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
