Lucie Marie Unger Ciciarelli age 86 of San Jose, California passed away on May 20, 2020 at Merrill Gardens in Gilroy, California.
Lucie was born in southern France (Puget-Sur-Argens) on May 27, 1933 to Nichan and Marguerite Bujuklian. Her parents were Armenian and had fled from Turkey to France to escape the Armenian genocide. Lucie was one of 10 children. Growing up in France and the French culture, Lucie later immigrated to the United States at age 17, along with her oldest brother, Charles and two sisters, Rosette, and Germaine, on the Queen Mary across the Atlantic Ocean to Ellis Island, New York.
While in the United States, Lucie learned English and became a U.S. citizen. The rest of the family later immigrated to the U.S. and also learned the language and became citizens of the United States.
Lucie attended Reedley College where she met her first husband, Verne T. Unger. Lucie and Verne were married in 1953 and had three children together; Jerry, Dale, and Darrell. They were married for 14 years until Verne was killed in a tragic automobile accident in Selma, California. Lucie remarried in 1976 to Renato “Nino” Ciciarelli who owned the Mt. Hamilton Grandview Restaurant in San Jose where she was a waitress with her dear friends, Shirley, Faye, and Marlene. When Nino passed in 1993, Lucie became owner of the restaurant.
Raised Catholic in France, while in America, Lucie regularly attended First United Methodist Church in Selma, California, with her husband Verne and three sons. Although quiet about her faith, Lucie bore much fruit of a believer. Lucie was known as “the peace maker in the family,” “all heart,” a “very big giver,” and the “most loved sister in the whole family.” Lucie’s generosity and kind heart were her best fruits and she never hated anybody.
Lucie had worked over 50 years as a waitress, chef, and Restaurant Owner. Lucie raised her three boys alone. While running the Mt. Hamilton Restaurant, Lucie had many repeat customers that called her a friend. Lucie later sold the restaurant and moved into Merrill Gardens in Gilroy, California.
Lucie is survived by her devoted children, Jerry and Jennie Unger, Dale and Heide Unger, Darrell and Lori Unger, her siblings and their spouses, Rosette and Roy Wiens, Germaine Blanc, Leon and Katrina Manou, Marcel Durant, Josette and (late husband) John Sirabian, Christiane and Ray Carlson, Andre Manou, Jenny Bujuklian and her late husband and oldest brother to Lucie Charles, and (late brother) Jeanoux. Lucie is also survived by many friends and nephews and nieces, and her grandchildren; Lisa and Rebecca Unger, David, Joanna, and Christopher Unger, Brittany and Lauren Unger, and Andrew Maack. God bless Lucie!
