The son of Italian immigrants, Leland Valentino Giraudo, was a proud American. Leland passed in the early afternoon of February 23rd at Santa Clara Kaiser Hospital. He leaves behind, Yvonne, his loving wife of 63 years, three sons—Leland Paul, Rick, and Michael, his only daughter, Carol, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Born on March 27, 1932 at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, to Paul and Marie Giraudo, Leland was their only beloved son. His Uncle Bart also played an important role in his life and he treasured his memories of their relationship. He grew up in Saratoga/Los Gatos during its early days and had many fond memories of the lifelong friends he made along the way. He graduated from Los Gatos High School in 1949 at the young age of sixteen. Afterwards, he joined the Navy and served proudly during the Korean War. Once returning home, he met his future bride and love of his life at a street dance in downtown Los Gatos. From that point on, they were inseparable and spent the next 63 years building a life together. During that time, they travelled the world visiting places in the Far East and Europe, but their fondest travels were those visiting his extended family in Northern Italy. For their 60th wedding anniversary, they took thirteen of their children and grandchildren on a 10-day cruise to Alaska.
He was known throughout Los Gatos for his keen barbering skills and jovial laugh—this was a career that lasted over 50 years. In fact, it was a place where he formed his deepest friendships with colleagues and, more importantly, his customers—generations of customers—fathers, sons, and even grandsons.
“Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” –Matthew 25:23.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara who so valiantly tried to save his life. They never gave up on him and he fought until the very end.
Viewing will be at Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos on Wednesday, February 28th from 6-8, with a blessing at 7:00. Graveside service at Los Gatos Memorial Park on Thursday morning at 10:00, reception following.
In lieu of flowers or other keepsakes, the family would appreciate a donation in his name to Bellarmine College Preparatory: https://www.bcp.org/support-bcp/onlinegift.aspx
