Joy Aiken Collisson passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday January 21st, 2020 after a challenging battle with pancreatic cancer.
Joy was born in Arizona in 1947 and moved to Los Gatos, California at the young age of five. She graduated from Saratoga High School in 1965 and earned a degree from Monticello College in Illinois. During college she met and eventually married Henry Robert Collisson in 1969. Together, they started a family in Los Gatos, California.
After raising her son’s, Joy enjoyed a career at State Farm Insurance, where she put her love of problem solving to work helping clients navigate their issues. She was most proud of her time spent at The Packard Foundation supporting their International Women’s Health and Reproductive initiatives.
Being informed was quintessential Joy. She loved her morning newspapers, NPR, Senior Tuesday at the movies, a good book, and especially all things political (she was never short of opinions.) Joy’s garden flourished under her consistent care and planting. Her true charm came alive during the holidays – all holidays called for extensive decorations and big family dinners.
Joy was preceded by her husband Henry in 1991 and is survived by her sons Benjamin Hunter Collisson (Kristy Ann Bonaccorso), Henry Robert Collisson, Jr., loving grandchildren Dylan Hunter Collisson and Alyssa Taylor Collisson. She is also survived by her sisters Susan Aiken and Emily Aiken (Linda E. Wilkes). Joy is also survived by long time partner Henry Southerland Thorne and Buster the dog.
Her charm, intellect and love will be missed by all who knew her.
