After fighting cancer for 3 years, Jon passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, September 19. He was born in Cudahy, Wisconsin but his family moved to Los Angeles, California when he was 6 years old. After graduating from Eagle Rock High School, Jon joined the Navy where he attended E.T. school on Treasure Island and became an electronic technician. Upon leaving the Navy in 1956, he went to Los Angeles State College on the G.I. bill and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was hired by IBM where he worked for over 30 years.
Jon is survived by his loving wife, Arline, devoted children, Eugene Veteska of Santa Cruz, California, Ann Marie Alfrey of White City, Oregon and grandson, Evan Alfrey of White City, Oregon. He is also survived by his sister, Arlene Sleigh, of Dalton Gardens, Idaho. Jon and Arline were blessed with a wonderful marriage of over 60 years.
Jon’s love of tennis began in high school and continued throughout his life. He belonged to the Gilroy Tennis Club where he made many friends. He volunteered with the AARP TaxAide program helping seniors complete their tax returns.
If you ask anyone who knew Jon they would say he was a good man, a nice guy, a real gentleman. He will be missed.
