Rankin, John Alden Jr. passed away peacefully on May 1 at the age of 62 following a courageous battle with stroke-related complications.
Born the sixth of seven children to John and Sue Rankin on October 27, 1955, John Jr. spent his childhood in Los Gatos and Saratoga. He attended St. Mary’s grade school and Bellarmine College Preparatory High School, graduating in 1974. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree at Chico State University and later received his MBA from Santa Clara University. John held cost accounting and financial management positions with Rolm Corporation and Applied Materials.
John is survived by his cherished wife Terri who lovingly and unfailingly cared for him throughout his years of illness, his daughter Emily Cannon (Baron) of whom he was exceedingly proud, his grandson Emmett Cannon, and his sisters Maureen Thomas, Meg Noonan (John), Marylou Snowden (Terry), Marilyn Coll (John), and Michelle Stewart (Bill). He was preceded in death by his sister Marcia Rankin and his twin granddaughters Madeline and Margaret Cannon who are eagerly awaiting the arrival in heaven of their “Papa John”. JR was a beloved uncle to fifteen nieces and nephews and a dear cousin to his numerous Brady relatives.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception on May 5 at 9:30am. Donations in his memory may be made to the National Stroke Association.
