Jahala (Jolly) Elaine Patton
Jolly was born on April 9, 1930, in Portland, OR, to James Edwin Keys and Viva Marie Keys (Wells). She is survived by son Scott Patton of Great Falls, VA, daughter Janet Patton (David Van’t Hof), of Boise, ID, and son Douglas Patton (Maureen) of San Jose, CA. She is also survived by her seven granddaughters, the treasures of her life: Bryana Patton, SaraJayne Patton (and great grandson Vincent!), Carrie Anne Patton, Janelle Van’t Hof, Kristin Van’t Hof, Amelia Patton, and Zoe Patton. Jolly was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Glenn Patton, Jr, her parents, and her sister, Viva Marie Grove.
After graduating from Salem High School (OR) in 1948, Jolly attended Oregon State College graduating with a degree in Home Economics in 1952. She married her college sweetheart in the summer of 1952. Several years after college and living in Salem (and the birth of three children!) they moved to the San Francisco bay area to raise their family. The family eventually migrated to Saratoga where she lived for 50 years. While her children were finishing high school, she perused a second college degree in business and went on to a 22-year career in human resources at General Electric Nuclear Energy in San Jose. Jolly (and Glenn) were avid golfers, line dancers, and bridge players. They mixed world-wide travel with many trips to their local hide-aways in Palm Springs and Hawaii.
Through the spirituality that guided her life, Jolly touched all in her life with love and forgiveness. She was a devoted wife and mother, and the foundation for the family during times of adversities and successes. When she set her mind on a goal, she worked diligently and methodically to accomplish the feat, no matter how easy or difficult the effort. In her later years she focused her efforts on her granddaughters, serving as guiding light with relentless unconditional love and support. It could be said she was like her gardens; colorful, meticulously ordered, and planned and cared for with love. She will be so very missed…..
