Italia Savina, age 85, went to our heavenly home on Friday, December 11, 2020. Italia was born to the late Salvatore Raffaele and Giuseppina Galluzzo in Siderno Marina, Italy on February 22, 1935. That is where at the age of 13 she met Girolamo Vincenzo Moio and later married at the age of 23. This year they celebrated 62 beautiful years of marriage.
After living in Genova, Italy for 12 years they decided to move their family to America. On July 4th, 1971, they arrived in New York City by ship to begin a new life and adventure for their now growing family
Together they raised 7 children: Rosetta Alafaci (Tiziano), Antonio Moio (Laura Reinschmidt), Giuseppina Moio (Vincenzo Fiorenza), Patrizia Moio (Damiano Gimondo), Salvatore Raffaele Moio, Luigi Gino Moio (Kimberly) and Stefania Julia Kouretas (Chris). Italia is also a loving Nonna to 9 grandchildren: Paolina Alessandra Alafaci, Angela and Mario Gimondo, Savina Rose, Mikaela Italia and Vincenzo Michael Moio, Giorgia Evie Kouretas and Domenic and Chiara Cole.
Italia, also known as Savi, Mamma, Nonna, Zia, sorella and friend to all, is the youngest of 6 children. A loving sister to the late Nina Futia, late Angiolina Fiorenza, late Rosario and Antonio Galluzzo and Maria Commisso.
As a deeply devoted wife and stay at home mother, her passion was to cook and make everyone feel loved and at home. She was truly a kindhearted, warm, giving, talented, beautiful, amazing Mamma. A loving human being who would do absolutely everything and anything for her family and friends. She always welcomed everyone into her home with open arms, a fat plate of pasta, glass of wine, and a fresh cup of espresso. We will continue to hear her laughter and words of guidance, feel her love, carry her strength and continue to care for Papà like she always did. We will check in on one another like she did daily with all her children and grandchildren as she always made sure that we were all safe and most of all well fed.
Mamma, what you and your hands created is truly amazing and created a legacy for us all. Your strength and tenacity is still present and will be carried on by all. We love you so much and you will be dearly missed by all those that loved you.
