Harold joined the love of his life, Florence in heaven, on July 16.
Harold, oldest son of Wesley & Pearl Sutherland, and brother of James, was born on December 19, 1931 in Hallock MN.
Harold was a son, a brother, a cousin, a friend, a husband, a brother-in-law, a father, a father-in-law, a grandfather, and a future great-grandfather. Everybody he met, stranger or not, always became a friend.
After graduating high school, a one room school in the farming community of Hallock MN, he attended Crookston College in Minnesota with his brother and studied Agriculture. He joined the Navy and spent his time on the USS Oriskany during the Korean conflict. While on a port leave in Oakland CA, he met the love of his life, Florence, and they were married on May 29, 1954. He became a father (Theresa) for the first time in October 1956, and became a first time homeowner in 1958 in San Lorenzo, CA. He became a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in San Lorenzo and he helped to build a neighborhood park. 2 more children followed (Stacey & Harold Jr.) in 1961 & 1964. They moved to San Jose CA, their forever home in 1965.
He participated and supported his wife and children in all their hobbies and other endeavors, which included Quito Little League and Campbell-Moreland Pony League, crafting and quilting, and spending time with his grandchildren (7) and the many family dogs over the years.
Harold and his wife loved traveling, primarily to Hawaii their favorite destination. Their last travel destination was a cruise to Alaska before Florence passed on. He still enjoyed traveling with his family to Hawaii when they could get away.
His last trip was to Scotland where he finally was able to visit the Dunrobin Castle-Sutherland Castle, and to visit the Scottish Highlands in the County of Sutherland. He even had a chance to meet some Sutherland “cousins” on this trip, which made him really happy.
He is preceded in death by his wife Florence (2005), and his brother James (2020).
He is survived by his children Theresa Sutherland, Stacey Allen (Dave), and Harold Jr. (Lynnette who was like a daughter).
He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, his pride and joy, Brittney (Scott) Dawes, Kailey (Matt) Alongi, Kyle Sutherland, Katie Sutherland, Remy Allen, Makena Allen, and Carson Allen.
In this time of Covid-19, there will be no public services, only immediate family. In lieu of any flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to Shiner’s Hospital at https://lovetotherescue.org, Harold’s favorite charity.
