E. Dale Stewart died peacefully at home in San Jose on November 15, 2017 at age 79. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marie Robertson Stewart; four children and their spouses, John and Alison Stewart, Michael and Holly Stewart, Nick and Anne Papadopoulos, and Brian and Christine Tidwell; and 11 grandchildren.
Dale was born on February 27, 1938 in Nampa, Idaho. He was the third of four children, and the only son, born to Leon Dale and Alta Marie Morrison Stewart. His family owned a small dairy farm in Nampa where Dale learned the value of hard work.
An excellent student and athlete, Dale earned a BA in history, and an MBA from Brigham Young University. He loved history and was a WWII buff.
Dale was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He completed two missions for his church, the first to Northern Germany from 1960 to 1963. The second with his wife Marie to Frankfort, Germany, from 2004 to 2006. He also served as a bishop, a scoutmaster in the Boy Scout program, a young men's leader, and many other volunteer church assignments. He was involved in hundreds of service and charity projects throughout his life.
In 2003, Dale retired from a 37-year career as a financial analyst, first for Ford Aerospace, which later was acquired by Loral and then Lockheed Martin. His work had taken him to many US Cities, Iran, and even to his beloved Germany, a country where he had spent so much time as a young missionary.
Dale enjoyed sports throughout his life. He loved playing basketball, swimming and biking to work on warm days (a 52-mile round trip). In 1989, he completed a 500-mile charity bike hike to Disneyland as a leader to 33 youth from his church. He was an avid lifelong BYU sports fan -- Go Cougars!
A loving father and grandfather, Dale had a calm, happy, kind personality and wonderful sense of humor. He laughed often and easily. The last years of his life were affected by Alzheimer's.
