Dorothy A. Cross
Resident of Carmel
It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Archie Cross announces her passing on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the age of 93 years. Dorothy was born in, and spent most of her childhood in, Corpus Christi, Texas.
Dorothy had many interests, two of which were photography and writing. She wrote a plethora of articles on a variety of topics for newspapers and magazines, usually accompanied by her own photographs of the subject, photographs which were often developed in the darkroom she had built in her home.
Her wit and writing ability were deployed in one of her other interests: entering contests. Creative contests developing advertising taglines were a specialty of hers, and she often won first prize. Her prize-winning ability didn’t end there, as she won enough in all types of contests to have this interest classified as a business.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sandra (Cass) Jackson, Janette Cross, and Frances Cross, her grandchildren, Thanayi Jackson, Lance (Brittany) Gardner, Brandon Gardner, Cyrus Cross, and Kasey Cross, her great grandchildren Miles Gardner and Max Gardner, by her brother Robert Parry, sisters-in-law Patricia Petrie, Peggy Cross, and Rose Cross, nieces Audrey Quartier, Patsy Keenan, Brenda Hart, Dolly Curaza, Vickie Cross, and Donna Cross, and nephews, Robert Parry Jr., Dan Combs, Paul Cross, John Cross, Jim Cross, and Bob Cross.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Cross, her son, Bryan K. Cross, her brothers-in-law Don Cross and Skip Combs, and her sister-in-law Sally Combs.
On Saturday, June 9, there will be a public visitation beginning at 11:00 am and a service celebrating Dorothy’s life beginning at 11:30 am to be held at Darling & Fischer Campbell Memorial Chapel, 231 E Campbell Ave., Campbell. She will be laid to rest following the service at Los Gatos Memorial Park Cemetery, 2255 Los Gatos Almaden Road, San Jose.
