Tribute

Colleen S. Johnson, née Swanson, of San Jose, California passed away Sept. 24, 2021.
Colleen was born in Hoquiam, Washington to George and Ova Swanson and graduated as salutatorian from Hoquiam High School in 1956.
After high school, Colleen worked in Olympia before moving to Santa Clara, California and getting a job at Lockheed Corp., where she met and married Verne W. Johnson in 1962 and had a son Todd in 1967. Divorced in 1980, Colleen updated her clerical skills at San Jose Community College and then worked for 28 years as an administrative assistant at FMC in Santa Clara, later BAE Systems, until she retired in 2009.
After retirement, Colleen was a surprisingly independent senior who developed a great love for blues music, local theatre and dance, and a keen interest in Disney World. For many years, she would travel by herself at least once (sometimes several times) per year to Orlando, spend several weeks visiting attractions, and then board the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, on which she was a regular cruiser. She made two very special friends on her Orlando trips, Amber Rutledge and Jo Ellen Andrew, to whom the family is very thankful for the love and friendship that they were able to give her over the years.
She is survived by her son Todd, a sister Sheila, and several nieces and nephews.
The family is not planning an in-person service but plans to hold an online memorial and has set up a memorial page where friends and family can share their memories of Colleen (https://www.weremember.com/colleen-sandra-johnson/0a2h/memories).
