Beloved father and devoted husband, Chihtai Chou, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Monday morning, September 16, 2019 at home in Cupertino, CA – his favorite place in the world. He was 64. Chihtai was born on March 12, 1955 in Taipei to Shao-Hsien and Jing-Ching (Yao) Chou and graduated from Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan. The first in his family to emigrate to the United States, he obtained his master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Iowa, and moved to Boston, MA in 1982 where he fell in love with New England, married his graduate school sweetheart, and became a lifelong New England sports fan.
After moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994, Chihtai enjoyed a long and successful career at Cisco Systems where he helped design the Cisco IP Phone (“the original iPhone”), retiring in 2015 as a Senior Tech Leader. Always wanting to stay busy, he enjoyed playing guitar, making one of his “famous” pasta dishes, and a good round of golf.
Chihtai is survived by his loving wife, Daphne; and children Emily, of New York, NY, and Jeremy, of Boston, MA. He is also survived by his sisters Chu-Pin, Chuan-Ji, and Dian-Dian of Taipei, Taiwan; and brother Jack of Union City, CA. His dedication to family and humble loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Family, friends, and others whose lives he touched are invited to a memorial service on Thursday, Sep. 26, 2019 from 11am-12:30pm at Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills, 615 N Santa Cruz Ave, Los Gatos, CA.
