Cathy J Stannard
April 20, 1943 ~ August 24, 2023 (age 80) 80 Years Old
Be the first to offer your condolences on Cathy's Tribute Wall
Cathy Joann Stannard, affectionately known as “C.J.” to friends and family, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023, after a six-year struggle of recuperation from a stroke. Many were fortunate to eat a meal at her table. Cathy made the best chicken cacciatore this side of Sicily.
Cathy as born at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco and as a child considered Golden Gate Park her backyard. The Japanese Tea Gardens fostered a lifelong love of gardens and all her residences boasted landscapes and floral designs worthy of magazine photo spreads.
She graduated from Mills High School in 1961 and worked for the San Jose School District as director of food services for many years. At home, her dinners created the center of gravity for every party. She also made sure there were plenty of Hershey’s kisses on hand for the little ones.
Cathy travelled extensively throughout Europe, but Las Vegas was also a favorite travel destination as it was here that she saw many of her favorite performers: Rod Stewart, Elton John, and Celine Dion. No matter what, however, C.J. was always a 49er fan.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband, John of Los Gatos, devoted son and daughter-in-law Greg and Ann of San Jose, and grandson, Erik.
Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Maureen, Michele, and Debbie, and stepsons, John, Dave, and Brian, his wife, Sarah, and step grandchildren, Lilly, Jack, Aidan, and Seamus. She is predeceased by her sister, Sue.
There are many other relatives too numerous to mention. All have incredible memories of visits and summer vacations at her home. We will think of C.J. every time we see a Lake Tahoe sunset or a springtime bloom.
