Carole June Freitas, 80, of Los Gatos, passed away December 12th, 2018 in Los Gatos, CA. Carole spent her last 60 years positively impacting the lives of thousands of children in the Silicon Valley. She was a Pioneer in her field, impacting the world of Child Development as we know it today. After earning her Master’s Degree from San Jose State, she began her career teaching at San Jose City College, and served as head of their Home Economics Department. During this time, Carole discovered there were only 8 childcare programs in the Santa Clara County, which were divided between those that provided daycare only or those that had a morning preschool only. Carole became interested in having her own school to demonstrate the idea of integrating daycare and preschool into one program. Through her vision, research, perseverance, resourcefulness, and hard work that make up who Carole Freitas was, she created a full day semi-structured preschool focused on developing the whole child: socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. Together with her husband, John, they opened their first preschool with 12 students in August of 1968, which today, serves over 5500 students a year in 10 locations & 19 programs that make up Action Day Primary Plus. Carole was so passionate about children, her schools and the field of Child Development in general. Her passion and great influence gave strength to all those around her. She will be missed so deeply, but her legacy will live on through the many children that have been, and will continue to be, positively impacted through her vision. She will be forever loved and missed. Carole is preceded in death by her parents, William Hank Fieldcamp and Alice Fieldcamp, and survived by her dearest husband, John Freitas, and beloved daughter Michelle Freitas. Memorial Services will be held at Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos, 16575 Shannon Rd, Los Gatos, CA 95032 on January 12th, 2019 at 12:30pm.
