Betty Louise Messa passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones at the age of 93. Betty was born in San Jose, California and lived her entire life in the Santa Clara Valley and the Santa Cruz mountains. She was the “1st” baby of the year born in Santa Clara County in 1926 at the original O Connor’s Hospital in San Jose. Betty attended Campbell High School during the World War II years where she was a member of the Girl’s Peninsula Athletic League, graduating in the Class of 1943. She married Peter G. Messa in January of 1944 and as a young wife worked various jobs including Sears and Roebuck, the Burbank French Bakery and Abinante & Nola Fruit Packing Co. all in the San Jose area. Her talent and experience in bookkeeping and accounting served her throughout her life in the management of the family orchard farming and tractor service businesses. As a mom and grandma, she was always there to help. Betty enjoyed gardening, cooking, music, sports, travel and especially time with family and friends. She was an avid San Francisco Giants fan for over 50 years.
Betty is survived by her three children, Ray (Martha) Messa of Newberg, Oregon, Diana (Donald) Fulkerson of Los Gatos and Peter (Sue) Messa of Los Gatos and grandchildren Gina (Messa) Tynan of Portland, Oregon, Lisa (Fulkerson) White of Sacramento, LynnAnn (Fulkerson) Leikam of San Jose, Kristal (Fulkerson) Beck of Campbell, Dayna Fulkerson of Santa Cruz, Greg Messa of Oakland, Mark Messa of Los Gatos, and Kevin Messa of Los Gatos. Betty is also survived by 8 great grandchildren. They are Bryan White, Megan White, Emily White, Kelcy Wiley, Kaitlyn Wiley, Natalie Walton, Nathan Walton, and Cayley Fulkerson.
A private family graveside service will be held at Los Gatos Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest with her loving husband of 60 years Peter.
A Celebration of Life gathering for all her friends and family will be held on August 17, 2019 beginning at 1:00 PM at the family property in Santa Cruz County where Betty spent her last 18 years.
