Barbara Herbel passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday September 3, 2022. She was kind, thoughtful, fun loving, and always had a smile on her face.
Barbara was born in Houston, TX and attended high school at Jesse H. Jones where she participated in numerous activities including color guard and yearbook. She met her husband through a spring break carpool arranged via bulletin board while attending Texas Tech University. Barbara earned a degree in Nursing while living in Los Angeles and worked approximately 20 years in a variety of departments including ICU, Telephone Advice and Allergy (giving allergy shots to patients at Kaiser Permanente in Milpitas) before retiring.
Barbara was filled with laughter and encouraged her family to make everyone feel welcome at church and in life. She had many close friends at Bible Studies, served a term as Deacon, and enjoyed square dancing. She was dedicated to raising her children in the church and walking with the Lord. She loved to throw an amazing party, decorate, and have fun. She will always be remembered laughing and talking with her lovely Texas accent even though she lived in California for 56 years. Barbara went all out for her family, making homemade piñatas for birthdays, driving her daughters to toilet paper houses during slumber parties, participating in Cub Scouts, being there for the birth of all her grandbabies, and made sure her son-in-laws felt loved and included during Christmas. Once for a Halloween party with our teenage daughter, she dressed up as a witch, a hit with the teens!
Barbara is survived by her dedicated & loving husband of 57 years Gerald, devoted children Angela Ferrara (Ted) of San Antonio, TX, Elaine Foster (Richard) of Santa Barbara and Adam Herbel of Milpitas, and grandchildren Arcadia and Tustin Barrile of southern California and Travis and Ryan Foster of Santa Barbara. She is also survived by her brother John Handley of Houston, TX.
