Adele M Foos

December 13, 1919 ~ July 13, 2017 (age 97)

A Mass of remembrance and celebration of the 97-year life of Adele M. Foos, will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017. Adele passed away peacefully on July 13th after a recent period of ill-health.
Adele was born in Montreal to parents who immigrated from Lithuania. She spoke only Lithuanian and some French until she moved to Fostoria, Ohio, at age six and learned English. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class, attended business college, and worked for an insurance company for eight years prior to marriage. Adele met her husband, William (Bill) Foos, in third grade and went through school with him, but it wasn’t until he returned to his hometown on leave as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during WW II that their relationship grew and they were married in 1946.
Adele and Bill settled in Toledo Ohio. Adele supported their family life and her husband studied Finance at Toledo University, worked his way up to become controller of Electric Autolite in Ohio, and in 1962, Bill’s company transferred him to the Bay Area to work for Hiller Aircraft. Bill went on to serve as President of the Ferry Morse Seed Company in Mountain View until retirement with the never-ending support of Adele. The couple enjoyed life in Cupertino, California, with their four children until moving to Saratoga, California, in 1970 where Adele lived for the remainder of her life.
Adele was an avid and accomplished bridge player and participated in many bridge groups in the Saratoga community. She was a long-time member of La Rinconada Country Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed her later years residing at the Saratoga Retirement Community where she had many friends.
Adele is survived by her three daughters, Rebecca Mason (Gary) of San Jose, Melinda Foos of Campbell, and Suellen Johnston of Vacaville, her son Douglas Foos (Kathy) of Campbell, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. As the family matriarch, Adele will be dearly missed.
The service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Saratoga, with burial immediately following at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos under the direction of Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, Los Gatos. An informal viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the Darling Fischer Mortuary prior to the church service. A lunch reception will follow.
