Robert Leo “Buck” Frank passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017 in Santa Cruz, California. Buck was a native of the Santa Cruz Mountains and lived there all 78 years of his life. He worked as an operating engineer for over 50 years and operated the Frank Ranch Christmas tree farm, which was started by his parents.
Buck loved the Santa Cruz Mountains and had a deep respect for the land around him. He was an authority on facts, events and local history. An interesting person, he raced flat track motorcycles in the 1950’s, was an avid gardener, enjoyed operating and collecting Caterpillar and John Deere tractors and loved almost anything with an engine. Later in life, participated in the speeder community, which gave him the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and Canada by rail. He also liked taking train trips through Europe.
Buck preceded in death by his parents, Leo Modesto Frank and Mary Stewart Frank, also a Santa Cruz Mountain native. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Cline Frank, his daughter, Laurel Marie Frank and his grandchildren, Joseph Robert, Katherine Elizabeth Anderson, Travis Garman, and Amber Pluckham.
Services will be held at Darling & Fisher Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos on Thursday, October 5 at 11:00 am. Buck will be laid to rest in Los Gatos Memorial Park.
