Miles (Mike) Leonard Peterson, of San Jose, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
During Miles’ 30-year Silicon Valley career that began at IBM, he was recruited by several spinoff companies — Iomec, Intel, Zentec, Seagate, Connor Peripherals, Gyration — and earned patents on five of his designs, for inventions instrumental in making computers smaller, faster, and with more memory.
But by far, the proudest of his accomplishments were his family. He loved planning annual vacations — favorites Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Pismo Beach. He never missed a baseball or football game, a swim meet, or stage performance. He was always there, with Elaine, cheering proudly. He taught us about honesty, responsibility, how to see the good in everything, and about never taking anything for granted. He will be missed for his enduring positive attitude, his sense of humor, the way he made everything better, his unshakable fight, and the smile that was always on his face.
Mike is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elaine Peterson of San Jose, his three children; Michael Peterson (and Elisabeth); Lisa (and Andy) Scontras; and Jody (and Craig) Murray; and one grandchild, Miles Murray, age 10.
A funeral service is schedule for Friday, June 23 at Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 1550 Meridian Avenue, in San Jose. A reception will be held at the church following the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Miles Peterson.
