Dan was born and raised in San Jose, CA. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School (’49) and Menlo College (’51). He then joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. After his discharge, he returned to school and attended Stanford University (’57) and Santa Clara Law School (’60).
He enjoyed a 49-year career as a 3rd generation Oneal lawyer in Santa Clara County, where he primarily practiced criminal defense. He loved hunting and fishing at his family’s Isabel Valley Ranch. He could also be found playing golf at San Jose Country Club with the invariable Gin game thereafter. Later in life, he picked up the game of bridge, playing in numerous tournaments and earning the designation “Life Master”.
Dan is survived by his loving wife Margaret “Mimi” Oneal; children Jeffrey (Susan) and Lynne; Step-daughters Anne Leeper, Jane Friedrich (Larry) and Julia Aspinwall as well as grandchildren Nicole and Christopher Oneal and Mathew Leeper. He was preceded in death by his parents Duncan and Patty Oneal and his brother Louis Oneal.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 11 am at Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills 615 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
