Ann CollinsOctober 7, 1933 ~ November 24, 2017 (age 84)
Ann Traill Collins passed away peacefully on November 24th, following a stroke earlier in the week. She was known for her positive outlook on life, her enduring commitment to family and friends, and her incredible smile. She will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew her.
Ann was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Caroline Staley Weller and Charles Bayard Traill II. After spending her childhood in Frederick, Maryland, she moved to Laramie, Wyoming when she was 16 to attend the University of Wyoming. There she met George Collins, a student in the graduate school. After graduating from Wyoming with a B.A. in psychology, Ann attended the University of Chicago to pursue a Master’s in Social Work. George and Ann were married in Wyoming in 1956 and moved to San Jose in 1964. In between raising four children, Ann was the Regional Director of The American Cancer Society, then later at Stanford Research Institute. From there she was a director at Santa Clara University, where a law school department chair is named after her. She was later the Director of Development at Good Samaritan Hospital where she chaired events such as the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, the Great Rubber Duck Race, the Tortoise and Hare Race, and the La Rinconada Annual Golf Tournament. In total these events raised over $10 million for Good Samaritan Hospital and largely benefited Women’s and Children’s Services. Ann loved cooking Greek food for her family, decorating her home for the holidays, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also a longtime devoted member of Venture Christian Church and will be deeply missed by the community.
Ann is survived by her husband of 62 years, George; her children Kris Rapazzini (Mark) of Los Gatos, Dena Noble (Jay) of San Jose, Peter Collins of San Francisco, Dimitri Corinthos of San Jose; and her grandchildren Adrian and Melina Rapazzini, Nick and Austin Noble, and Alexxa Noble Rind (Preston). Ann is also survived by her brother Charles B. Traill III of Lincoln, CA and her half sister Joy Valentine of Newport Beach.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial celebration of Ann’s life on Monday December 4th at 6:00pm, at Venture Christian Church (16845 Hicks Road in Los Gatos). A private burial for immediate family will follow at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on Thursday December 7th.
